Adina A. Goering, Tochter von A. C. Goering und Gattin, wurde am 1. Sept. 1903 nahe Moundridge, Kansas geboren. Sie besuchte die Volksschule und graduierte in 1921 von der Moundridge Hochschule. Am 20. Juni, 1920 ward sie von Aelt. C. J. Goering getauft und Glied der Eden Gemeinde, wo sie auch treues Glied blieb. Drei Jahre im Bethel College, einige Sommer im McPherson College und weiteres Studium an der Universität zu Boulder, Colo. trugen ihr im Mai 1924 den A. B. Titel ein, worauf sie sich auf Musiklehren verlegte, zunächst in Attica und dann 2 Jahre in Partridge, Kansas. Dann erwarb sie sich in Manhattan in 1928 den Magister und machte im Sommer eine Europareise und bereiste auch Palästina, was einen tiefen Eindruck auf sie machte. Sie lehrte dann weitere 2 Jahre in Partridge und 3 in Moundridge, 1 Jahre zu Burden, 2 zu Sharon und 1 zu Smolan. Mittlerweilen besuchte sie im Sommer die Chicago Universität und das Chicago Theologische Seminar und auch ein Semester die Northwestern University, wo sie den Musik-Magister erwarb. Vier Jahre war sie dann Musik- Supervisor der Portage und Richland Training Schools der Western Michigan College zu Kalamazoo, wobei sie in all diesen Jahren auch nicht einen Tag wegen Krankheit versäumte. Am 12. Juni nach Schulschluß sagte sie zu ihrer Schwester: “Ich werde rasch meine Sachen packen, sodaß ich nachmittags nach Goshen, Indiana reisen kann.” Das geschah aber nicht,.denn sie ward krank und der Arzt riet operieren. Zwei Geschwüre und der Blinddarm wurden entfernt, und es schien zu bessern. Aber Komplikationen traten ein und es wurde nochmals operiert. Für alle Liebesdienste dankbar und ohne Klage verschied sie am 22. Juni um ½4 Uhr morgens im Alter von 38 J. 9 M. und 21 Tagen. Es trauern um sie ihre Eltern, 3 Schwestern, 3 Brüder und viele Freunde.

ADINA A. GOERING

On the first of September in 1903 there was born to Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Goering near Moundridge, a daughter whom they named Adina. This energetic personality was destined to become one of the ambitious and unselfish souls in her field of service. She attended the grammer [sic] school of near Moundridge and entered Moundridge high school. On June 20, 1920, she was baptized upon her confession of faith by Rev. C. J. Goering and became a member of the Eden Mennonite Church. To this church she remained a faithful member to the end. However, her continual absence from the home community lessened her opportunity to serve it as she did many others.

On the 18th of May, 1921, she graduated from Moundridge high school and the following September she entered Bethel College. Three years at Bethel and several summers at McPherson College, Bethel College and the University of Boulder, Colo., gave her an A. B. degree in May 1924. Then she entered upon a career of service in school teaching, primarily in the department of music; first in Attica and then two years at Partridge. Then she studied a year at Manhattan and was awarded a A. M. degree in 1928. That summer she spent three months in traveling in Europe, Africa and especially Palestine, where the places associated with the life and work of our Master Jesus Christ create in her a deep impression which also manifested itself in the alter service in her profession. Then she taught two more years at Partridge and three at Moundridge, one year a Burden, two years at Sharon and one at Smolan. In the meantime she had attended summer sessions at the University of Chicago and the Chicago Theological Seminary. During the term 1937-1938 she attended Northwestern University of Evanston, Ill., and was awarded a degree of Master of Music. For the past four pears [sic] she has been Music Supervisor for the Portage and Richland Training Schools of Western Michigan College in Kalamazoo. During all these years of service she never missed a day on account of illness.

On June 12, the day after school closed, Adina got up early and said to her sister, "I am going to finish my packing so that I can leave for Goshen (Ind.) this afternoon." But she did not go. The presence of abdominal pains caused her to consult a physician who recommended she go to the hospital and submit to an operation. The next morning she had two tumors and the appendix removed. from this she seemed slowly to recover and her usual jovial nature seemed to return. However, further complications set in and she submitted to another operation. This greatly weakened her and she never regained her physical strength.

During her severe illness in those days of suffering she despaired not the least. She acknowledged every act of service done for her with an appreciative "Thank you, you are so good to me."

In those last moments, our beloved sister, exerted every energy to appear pleasant with never a complaint, but with a smile on her lips every time that she spoke. On Monday morning, June 22, at 3:50, she breathed her last. She had attained the age of 38 years, 9 months and 21 days.

Those who mourn her sudden and early departure are her deeply grieved mother and father, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, 1 sister-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, 1 niece, 1 nephew, 9 uncles, 9 aunts, cousins and a host of friends. One brother and one sister have preceded her into the realm of glory.

The family wished to express its sincere thanks for every token of love and sympathy and for every act of assistance during their bereavement.
