CHARLES ANDREW GLASSBURN

Charles Andrew Glassburn, son of Anderson and Kezia (Hostetler) Glassburn, was born on December 7, 1872, near Wawpecong, Indiana. He died suddenly of a heart attack at his home near Freeport, Kansas June 1, 1951, aged 78 years, five months, 25 days.

His mother died when he was nine years old after which he made his home with his grandparents until the age of 20, when he came to Kansas to live with his uncle, B. F. Hostetler.

On November 22, 1904, he was united in marriage to Emma Kuhns, who survives. Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his departure two sons and six daughters; Vernon, Harper, Kansas; Raymond of Anthony, Kans.; Vena (Mrs. Jacob Webb), Argonia, Kans.; Estelle, East Moline, Ill.; Ada at home; Lorene (Mrs. Walter Wideman), Sheridan, Ore.; Bertha, (Mrs. Chas. Bickel), Wellington, Kans.; Elsie (Mrs. Victor Beyler, Protection, Kansas.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Naomi Pegg; three half brothers and two half sisters, Homer, George, Effie, and Mary of Peru, Indiana and David of Kokomo, Indiana; a number of nieces and nephews and many friends. An infant son preceded him in death April 1, 1919.

He accepted Christ as his Saviour and became a member of the Pleasant Valley Mennonite church in the year 1917 and remained a faithful member until death.

The children are deeply grateful for parents who gave them opportunities to learn of God’s great Salvation and they now look to Him who can give grace and strength in time of need.

Funeral services in charge of W. R. Nafziger and R. M. Weaver were held at the Pleasant Valley church the afternoon of June 4. Burial was made in the Pleasant Valley cemetery.
