JACOB S. GLANZER

Jacob S. Glanzer, son of Samuel and Barbara Walter Glanzer, was born Oct. 24, 1881 on a farm southwest of Bridgewater, S. D. and died May 12, 1955, at 10:30 a.m. in the McKennan hospital, Sioux Falls.

His death resulted from a former operation in the same hospital about a year ago, at which time he was in the hospital eleven weeks. It seemed that the operation was successful. He attended church quite regularly but never fully recovered. The final cause of his death was uremia.

His childhood days were spent in the parental home and his elementary education was received at the local district school.

On Dec. 16, 1902, he was united in holy matrimony to Anna Hofer, with Pastor Paul Tschetter as officiating minister. Their home was established three miles south of Bridgewater. The Lord richly blessed their undertaking.

In spite of the fact that he was reared in a Christian home and tried to live a Christian life he nevertheless recognized his lost condition and after sincere seeking and praying found forgiveness of his sin in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ and was baptized by Pastor Jacob J. Hofer, Sept. 13 1908, and became a member of the Salem K. M. B. church where he remained a faithful member to the end.

As a church member he was at first active as a Sunday School teacher. On Dec. 26, 1922, he was ordained as deacon, in which capacity he served to the best of his ability and undertaking. He was active in the ministry of home visitations, especially where sickness had entered. He and his wife tenderly and lovingly cared for the blind sister Kathrina Wollman as a member of the family for nine years.

He was a diligent student of the Word of God and prized it highly. Separation from the world was his primary objective. He loved singing and lived his convictions according to Col. 2:6 “As ye therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him” He is now reaping what he has sown.

He reached the age of 73 years, six months and 18 days, lived in holy wedlock 40 years, four months and 27 days, and as widower 12 years. to this union were born 13 children. He leaves to mourn him Samuel, Anna, Barbara, Michael and Jacob, all of Bridgewater; two daughters-in-law, Mary, Mrs. Mike Glanzer and Katy, Mrs. Jacob Glanzer; and two grand children Herbert and Marilyn; two brothers, Joseph B. of Huron and David S. W. of Bridgewater, and two sisters, Sarah, Mrs. Joseph Pollman of Bridgewater and Barbara, Mrs. John B. Hofer of Stirling, Alberta; a host of relatives an friends.

He was a loving father and we mourn his departure, but not as those who have no hope.

A large crowd came to pay their last respects to the memory of our departed brother. The service was opened with prayer by the pastor. The congregation sand “Safe in the Arms of Jesus,” before Rev. Tschetter brought a German message, using the quotation from the Palmist [sic], “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” He also read the obituary in the German. A male quartet sang “Keiner Wird Zu Schanden” before a message by Pastor Kleinsasser. The obituary in the English followed. Rev. Tschetter spoke the closing prayer. Interment was made in the family lot in the local cemetery.

Five close friends served as honorary pall-bearers: Christ Hofman, Jacob S. G. Hofer, Jacob F. Walter, David J. Glanzer and Isaac I. Walter, Sr. Six nephews of the departed were active pallbearers.
