text of obituary:
Mrs. Barbara J. (Wipf) Glanzer, 79, died Aug 15 in the Sierra View Rest Home at Reedley, Calif. She was the wife of Rev. Jacob P. Glanzer, retired minister. They had been married 62 years.
A native of Freeman, S.D., our mother came to California 63 years ago. She had lived in the Dinuba area for 25 years, and was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Reedley.
Our mother was a rare individual. In her youth in South Dakota she did manual labor in the home and in the fields. Although she received but a third grade education, she was able to master both the English and German languages. As a housewife on the plains of South Dakota during the Great Depression and the era of the Dust Bowl, she learned what privation was, but she still found time to work for her faith and her church. She was always at her husband’s side in all his aspirations and ministries. She participated in the services, and loved to sing with him, extolling the love of God. She was a skilled seamstress and cook.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, E. A. “Dutch” Glanzer of Dinuba, Calif. and Joseph of Stockton, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Annie Meadors of Dinuba and Mrs. Phoebe Reed of Fresno, Calif.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Susie Walters of Dinuba, Mrs. Kate Glanzer of South Dakota, and Mrs. Sarah Bergthold of Reedley.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 on Aug. 17 in the First Mennonite Church of Reedley with Rev. Leo Miller and Rev. Olin Krehbiel officiating.
