Oklahoma and Iowa Farm Accidents Claim Two Lives
Corn, Okla. — A tractor accident at his farm southeast of Bessie on Jan. 12 claimed the life of Henry Wedel, a native of Poland and resident of the Bessie community for 50 years.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 16, at the Cordell M. B. Church, of which he was a long-time member. Mr. and Mrs. Wedel lived near the church having moved from the farm seven years ago. Mr. Wedel drove to his farm with a small tractor and plow on Wednesday morning to do some plowing. Henry Penner, working in a nearby field, said the tractor tumbled down a creek bank, pinning Mr. Wedel face down in the water. Death was due to drowning.
Kalona, Iowa. — An Amish farmer and father of five children died at an Iowa City hospital Jan. 16 of internal injuries received in a farm accident three days earlier.
Freeman G. Gingerich, 52, was preparing to load some hogs at his farm when the backing truck pinned him against the loading chute.
His widow, two sons, three daughters and nine grandchildren survive.
