Native of Elkhart Dies at Age 87

Elkhart, Ind. — Mrs. Barbara Gingrich [sic Gingerich], native and long-time resident here, died Sept. 9 at Elkhart General Hospital at the age of 87.

She was born here in 1881, the daughter of Bishop J. S. Coffman, well known preacher-evangelist and pioneer educator of the (Old) Mennonite Church. She was married in 1917 to J. B. Bontrager, who died in 1945. In 1948 she married D. S. Gingerich, and he died in 1957. Nieces and nephews are the only survivors.

Mrs. Gingerich was a member of the Prairie Street Mennonite Church.

Bequests Total $20,000

Elkhart, Ind. (MBMC) — The estate of A. Barbara Gingerich of Elkhart, formerly of Freeport, Ill., recently bequeathed the sum of $10,000 to the Mennonite Board of Missions. Goshen College also was named for a $10,000 bequest from the Gingerich estate.
