Philanthropist Dies At Berne, Indiana
Berne, Ind. — Mrs. O. F. Gilliom, 83, lifelong member of the First Mennonite Church here, died at Adams County Memorial Hospital on June 17.
Mrs. Gilliom, the former Lucy Reusser, was a native of Harvey County, Kan. On May 30, 1910 she mas married to Oswin F. Gilliom, a successful insurance man in the Berne community, who preceded her in death.
Due to her large gifts to church and community institutions, an editorial in the June 18 issue of the Berne Witness named Mrs. Gilliom "one of the community's most outstanding philanthropists."
Among the institutions which benefited from her generosity were Mennonite Biblical Seminary at Elkhart, Ind., Bluffton (Ohio) College, the First Mennonite Church at Berne, and Swiss Village, Inc., Berne retirement center where Mrs. Gilliom resided before her death.
