MARGARET GIESBRECHT
Margaret Giesbrecht of Winnipeg passed away Sept. 27. She was born Nov. 26, 1907 to Johann and Margarete Giesbrecht in Scharapow, near Omsk, Russia. Her father died suddenly while they were planning to emigrate. She was searching for answers and found peace at a Bible study at age 15. In 1924 she was baptized and joined the MB church. Her mother married her widowed brother-in-law, Gerhard Dueck, and they immigrated to Manitoba in 1926. They took any work they could get in order to earn money for schooling. In 1934 she graduated from Winkler Bible School. She opened a branch of the Christian Press bookstore in her home in 1954. In 1964 she became independent as the Christian Bookstore. After her mother's death, she and her sister Helen worked in the bookstore until the day of her death. She believed her task from God was to supply the German-speaking population with good Christian literature. Predeceased by 4 brothers and 3 sisters, she is mourned by sisters Helen, Kaethe Martens, Mary Wiebe and Margaret Froese; brother Peter; 14 nephews and 16 nieces. The funeral was Oct. 1 in Central MB Church, Winnipeg, with Abe Quiring and Hermann Lenzmann ministering.
