OSCAR A. GERING
Oscar A. Gering, son of Andreas A. and Katherine (Miller) Gering, was born at Freeman, S. D. on Sept. 29, 1989, and lived there during his entire life.
He was baptized upon confession of faith in Christ as his Saviour on Sept. 5, 1925, in the Bethany Mennonite Church of Freeman, where last rites were held Dec. 10, 1966, at 10:30, with Rev. Wm. Unrau officiating.
On June 15, 1926 he was united in marriage with Edna Waltner, school teacher and piano teacher for many years. Together they shared a happy 27 years; Edna passed away in June 1953.
Ten years later, in June 1963, Oscar was united in marriage with Belva Scott, who survives him.
For a short period in his earlier days he was a school teacher. He then took up the jewelry business, for the first few years with the late Henry Goering. he followed that occupation the rest of his life.
He enjoyed good health, so that the community was shocked to learn of the sudden serious illness which beset him on Dec. 5, 1966. Two days later, Dec. 7, at Freeman Community Hospital he entered eternal rest. He reached the age of 68 years, two months, and seven days.
Others who survive him are three brothers, Jake, Leon and Chas., and one sister, Emma Wipf, all of Freeman, and three sisters, Amelia, Lena, and Lydia, and one brother, John, all of Kansas.
He was interred in the Freeman Community Cemetery.
