ELIZABETH GERING

Elizabeth Gering (nee Schrag), daughter of John and Katherine Schrag, was born at Freeman, South Dakota, May 17, 1877. She came with her parents to Eugene, Oregon at the age of nine years. Here she grew to womanhood and was baptized upon her confession of faith into the Mennonite Church by her uncle, the late Rev. J. R. Schrag.

On June 1, 1899, she married Adolph P. Gering and they were permitted to share this life together for nearly 53 years. Their honeymoon was spent in a covered wagon traveling to Eastern Washington where they homesteaded near Lind.

Since 1936 they had made their home in Soap Lake. Here they enjoyed the fellowship of the Community church. After a lingering illness she passed away in her sleep on Friday morning, February 29, 1952.

She is survived by her beloved husband and three children, Clara, Mrs. W. C. Rhea of Puyallup, Bertha, Mrs. Joe Graber of Soap Lake, and Ralph of Ritzville; three sisters, Anna, Mrs. Joe Ries and Fannie, Mrs. Tom Kaufman, of Freeman, South Dakota, and Carrie, Mrs. Emil Schrag of Ritzville; three brothers, Joe J. Schrag and Ewalt Schrag of Monroe, and Henry Schrag of Soap Lake; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
