MRS. EWALT GERING

Doris, Mrs. Ewalt Gering, youngest daughter of John and Fannie Waltner Stucky, was born May 30, 1907, in Pretty Prairie, Kansas. She received her education in the Pretty Prairie community where she attended the public and parochial schools.

When Doris was but ten years of age her father was taken in death. She was baptized upon confession of faith in her Redeemer by Rev. N. W. Banman, on Sept 16, 1920, and became a member of the First Mennonite church of Pretty Prairie. She later transferred her membership to the Nazarene church of Scott City, and later transferred once more to the Nazarene church at Kingman, of which church she remained a faithful member until death.

She was united in marriage with Ewalt Gering Aug. 28, 1930, by Rev. Philip A. Wedel. For over 19 years they shared life’s joys and sorrows, having been most affectionately devoted to each other. Two children were born to them, Armin Dwight, and Kenneth Alvin, of whom the latter passed away shortly after birth.

The departed lived with her family west of Pretty Prairie from 1930-32. Later they moved to Shallow Water in Scott county, and made their home there for three years. In 1935 they purchased a home near Kingman, Kansas, where the departed lived with her family until her death.

Doris lived a consistent Christian life, possessing an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ her Saviour whom she dearly loved and served. Her death bed will ever remain a blessing to those who stood by her. Even though she could speak but few words at a time because of shortness of breath, her testimony will ever remain in our memory as she said: “Safe! I am very safe. Rest, sweet res — It will soon be morning! Joyous victory! I am going home! Lord Jesus I thank thee!”

Doris enjoyed good health in her earlier life. However in 1936 signs of failing health began to appear, and since 1916 she suffered greatly. Much medical aid and hospital care was given her, but seemingly the Lord desired to transplant His child into His heavenly Home where there will be no more suffering and sorrow. Resigned to the will of God, and clinging steadfastly to her Saviour, she passed away Oct 3, 1949 at 7 a. m., reaching the age of 42 years, four months and eight days.

She leaves to mourn her sudden departure her deeply sorrowing husband Ewalt Gering and son Armin: two brothers, Simon Stucky and family, Pretty Prairie, Amos Stucky and family, Penalosa, Ks.; five sisters, Mrs. Elisabeth Merger and family, Hutchinson, Mrs. E. C. Graber and family, Pretty Prairie, Mrs. Alfred Kaufman and family, Pretty Prairie, Mrs. R. R. Krehbiel and family, Hutchinson, and Mrs. P. A. Wedel and family of Goessel; and many other relatives and friends.

Her infant son and her parents preceded her in death. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His Saints.”

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Oct 5, at the Methodist church in Kingman.
