Birth date: 1902 Jan 5
text of obituary:
MRS. IDA GERIG
Ida E. Gerig, daughter of Jacob B. and Mary (Reck) Boshart, was born in Milford, Neb. on Jan. 5, 1902, and departed this life on Oct. 16, 1968, at the Lebanon Community hospital, Lebanon, ore.
When she was 17 years of age she moved with her family to Oregon, settling in the Albany area. As a youth she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour. She was a faithful member of the Fairview Mennonite Church, Albany, Ore.
On Oct. 10, 1919 she was married to Christian C. Gerig. To this union were born four sons and four daughters, seven of whom survive: Irvin, Clarence, Norman, and Dean of Albany, Hazel Eby of Lebanon, Ruth (Mrs. Dale Birky) of Vanderhoof, British Columbia, and Laura (Mrs. J. M. Rhodes) of Longview, Wash. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Reil of Milford, Neb. and Bertha (Mrs. Henry Gerig) of Lebanon, and one brother, Elmer Boshart of Albany.
She was preceded in death by her companion on Aug. 28, 1959, by one daughter, Evelyn, at the age of six years, one son-in-law, Harvey Eby, and one infant granddaughter. Several brothers and sisters also precede her in death.
Funeral services were held Oct. 19, 1968 at the Fairview Mennonite Church with N. M. Birky and Verl Nofziger officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She had been in the hospital for nearly six months, having broken her leg the first of May, and was just ready to be discharged to her home when she developed pulmonary edema, from which she suffered about two weeks before the Lord suddenly called her to Himself.
It was her desire to depart this life and be with our Lord and her loved ones who had gone before. Much of her time was spent in fellowship with the Lord, trusting Him in His wisdom and love to take her from this life with its afflictions at His own time.
