• Mrs. Ida M. Yoder, Hesston, accompanied her son and grandson, Lawrence and Sam Yoder, to Harper Sunday where they attended the funeral of her uncle, Ed Gerber, 80, which was held in the afternoon at the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church. Ministers Henry King and Gene Herr were in charge. Mrs. Gerber, who survives, is a sister of Mrs. Yoder's late father, Sol Yoder. Other survivors include two children, Mrs. Orva Massanari, Goshen, Ind., and Loren Gerber, Harper. The aged Mr. Gerber died Friday at Wesley Hospital in Wichita after having suffered a concussion due to a fall at his home.

Edward Gerber, son of Ben and Mary (Schwartz) Gerber, was born at Harper, Kan. on April 12, 1889. He died in Wesley Hospital, Wichita, Kan., on Sept. 26, 1969 as the result of a fall, age 80 years, five months, 14 days.

As a youth he was baptized into the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church. At his death he had the longest continuous membership in this congregation.

On June 20, 1917, he was married to Bertha Plank at Harper who survives with one daughter, Orva and husband Dr. Walter Massanari and three children of Goshen, Ind., one son, Loren and wife Florence and three children of Argonia, Kan.; one sister, Amanda Gerber, of Harper.

He was preceeded [sic] in death by an infant son, one brother, Joe; three sisters, Sarah, Lydia, and Lena; ans one infant grandson.

Ed was a lover of the out-of-doors, and devoted his life to farming and stock raising, retiring two years ago. He will always be remembered for his quiet manner and his deep concern and dedication to the church.

Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church on Sept. 28, 1969 with Gene Herr and Henry King officiating. Interment was made int he church cemetery.
