JACOB P. GERBER

Jacob P. Gerber, 88, died Tuesday, July 9, 1963 at 11:30 p.m. in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Amstutz of R. D. 1, Apple Creek, Ohio.

He was born Feb. 7, 1875, to Peter J. and Maria Gerber at their farm home east of Kidron, Ohio where he lived until last April when he went to live with his daughter.

He was a member of the Kidron Mennonite Church. For many years he was a church chorister and Sunday school teacher. He married Lydia Gerber on Nov. 8, 1899, and she preceded him in death in 1941. Two sons, Sylvan and Delvin, and a grandson also preceded him in death. In addition to being a farmer, Jacob Gerber was a keeper of bees. After retiring from farming he continued his apiarian activities.

Surviving with his daughter are three sons, Nathan of the home farm at Dalton, R. D., Gilbert of Berne, Ind., and Oswin of Peoria, Ill.; 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Two of the grandchildren chose to serve under the Mennonite Church in the Far East. Mary Kay Gerber is presently teaching music at the Woodstock School in India. Dan Gerber was serving in a leprosarium in Viet Nam until he was taken by the Viet Cong rebels who still hold him captive.
