Pennsylvania Youth Dies in Collision

Adamsville, Pa. — This community was saddened by the accidental death of David Alan Gerber, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Gerber, who met instant death on Sunday morning, Oct. 18, when his car collided head on with a tractor-trailer rig three miles from his home. It is believed he fell asleep while driving.

The funeral service was held Oct. 21 at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church, where David was an active member.

Surviving in addition to the parents are two sisters, Delores and Arlene, both at home; the maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Litwiller of Cleveland, Ohio, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vallie Gerber of Hartstown, Pa.

DAVID ALAN GERBER

The Adamsville, Pa. community was shocked and saddend by the instant, accidental death of David Alan Gerber, 18. He died early Sunday morning, Oct. 18, of intracranial injuries suffered in a head-on collision of his car with a tractor-trailer rig three miles from home. He fell asleep while driving, and the car was completely demolished.

David was born on Feb. 21, 1946 in Adamsville, the son of Mervin and Bernice Litwiller, Gerber. Also surviving are two sisters, Delores and Arlene, both at home, the maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Litwiller of Cleveland, O., and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vallie Gerber of Hartstown, Pa. A stillborn brother and a grandmother, Mrs. Lillian Beckler Litwiller, preceded him in death.

David made a public confession of Christ as Saviour, was baptized on Sept. 17, 1961 and united with the Sunnyside Mennonite Church. He was widely known for his cheerful, happy disposition, and had made a host of friends and acquaintances. He had won the hearts of many area church youth and influenced them to a greater interest in church activities, including MYF.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday evening at the funeral home for the immediate families and relatives from a distance with Rev. Harvey Schrock and Rev. Daniel Johns officiating. A mixed octet sang.

The funeral service was held on Wednesday morning at Sunnyside Mennonite Church with Rev. Harvey Schrock officiating, assisted by Rev. Daniel Johns of Britton Run Mennonite Church, Spartansburg, Pa., and Rev. Frank Churchhill, Jr. of the Adamsville United Presbyterian Church. A mixed octet rendered two numbers. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
