Aged Donnellson, Ia. Resident Dies

Donnellson, Iowa. — Funeral services for Jacob Galle, 88, a resident of this community for more than 60 years, were held Dec. 9 at the Zion Mennonite church here. He died early Monday morning, Dec. 7.

Born in Washington county, Iowa, Mr. Galle grew to young manhood at Moundridge, Kansas to which place the family moved when he was two years old. he came to Donnellson in 1897 and was married here to the former Emma Weber. They observed their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 18 of this year.

JACOB GALLE

Jacob Galle was born on May 26, 1871, the son of Peter and Christina Krehbiel Galle, in Washington county, Iowa.

At the age of six years he and the family moved to Moundridge, Kansas. He was baptized there by Rev. Valentine Krehbiel at the Moundridge Mennonite church. He became a member, later, in the West Zion Mennonite church of that community. In 1897 he came to Donnellson.

On Feb. 18, 1899 he married Emma Weber of Donnellson. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Christian Schowalter at the old country Mennonite church. Soon after marriage, his membership was transferred to Zion church and he remained a faithful worker the rest of his life. The family lived near Donnellson continuously, except for a period of five years when they were in Oskaloosa with some of the children. Mr. and Mrs. Galle recently observed their 60th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife, Emma; five daughters and their husbands, Hilda and Henry Sprenger of Ft. Madison, Bertha and Arlo Phelps of Washington, Iowa, Stella and Clair Evans of Oskaloosa, Irene and Dan Lafferty of Macomb, Ill., Myrtle and Harland Peterson of Keokuk; one son and his wife, Wilmer and Helen Galle of Montrose; 24 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters: William, David, Mrs. Anna Koller, Mrs. Mary Huxmann, Miss Theresa Galle and Miss Barbara Galle.

Funeral services were conducted in the Zion Mennonite church Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Harold Thiessen officiating.

Interment was made in the Mennonite cemetery.
