— Mrs. Gustave R. Gaeddert, 79, died unexpectedly at the home in North Newton on Dec. 17. The former Sarah L. Lohrentz of Moundridge, she was a registered nurse, having graduated from the Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1921. She was married to Mr. Gaeddert in 1921, and they lived for a number of years in Topeka, Kan. and Washington, D. C., moving to North Newton in 1952. Following World War II the Gaedderts served under the MCC in Lebanon and Germany. Surviving in addition to the widower are two sisters, Mrs. Sam Regier of North Newton and Sister Agnes Lohrentz of Newton, and one brother, Peter Lohrentz of Buhler. She was a member of the Bethel College Church, where the funeral was conducted Saturday afternoon by Rev. Esko Loewen and Dr. Lloyd Ramseyer.

SARAH L. GAEDDERT

Sarah L. Gaeddert, daughter of Jacob and Maria (Martens) Lohrentz was born Jan. 2, 1891, in the community of Moundridge, Kan.

Sarah attended the Berlin District School, graduated from the Bethel College Academy in 1916, and from the Bethel Deaconess Hospital Nursing School in 1921. She attended the University of Kansas during the years 1924 to 1926, while her husband was doing graduate work, and lacked a year's work for her A.B. degree.

As a registered nurse Sarah worked at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital, at the Storment Vail [sic Stormont Vail] Hospital in Topeka, at the Prairie View Hospital in Newton, and at the Emergency Hospital in Washington, D. C. She also taught two years of public school near Buhler.

Elder Abraham Martens of the Hebron Mennonite Church baptized Sarah on Aug. 6, 1906. While living in Topeka and in Washington, D. C., she and her husband were members of the Congregational Church. While in residence in North Newton, Sarah was an active member of the Bethel College Mennonite Church.

Sarah was married to Gustave R. Gaeddert of Inman, Kan. on Aug. 31, 1921. She and her husband lived a happy married life for 49 years, 3 months, and 16 days. They spent many of their married years in North Newton, in Topeka, Kan., and in Washington, D.C. They served overseas for two years under the auspices of the Mennonite Central Committee. Three months were spent with the Arab refugees in Lebanon and 21 months with World War II refugees in Gronau, Germany, where Sarah was house mother in the refugee camp.

Sarah leaves to mourn her husband Gustave R.; two sisters, Mrs. Sam Regier of North Newton and Sister Agnes Lohrentz of the Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Newton; one brother, Peter M. Lohrentz of Buhler, Kan., many other relatives and a host of friends.
