— Funeral services for Miss Katherine Gaeddert, 71, of Goessel were held Wednesday afternoon at the Hoffnungsau church near Inman, with Rev. Albert M. Gaeddert in charge. Miss Gaeddert died Saturday at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel after being a hospital patient for more than four years. The daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Dietrich Gaeddert, she was formerly a school teacher and in later years had been employed at the Bethesda Home in Goessel. Among the six brothers and four sisters who survive are P. D. Gaeddert, Mrs. F. F. Matthies and Mrs. Albert Bartel, all of Newton.

KATHERINE A. GAEDDERT

Katherine Gaeddert, daughter of Rev. Dietrich and Helena Richert Gaeddert, was born Jan. 20, 1886, on a farm near Buhler, Kan. where she spent her early childhood days. Here she attended the public school. Later she attended the Bethel Academy, graduating from the Normal Training course in June 1911.

She was baptized on July 23, 1905, upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ by Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff and received into the membership to the Buhler Mennonite Church on Dec. 20, 1920, being one of the charter members here. She was a very conscientious worker in the church. She loved to sing and served in that capacity whenever and wherever she could.

She chose teaching as her profession. She taught in the Buhler and Inman communities. She was very conscientious in her work, and strove for perfection in all that she did.

After 11 years of teaching, her health would not allow her to go on. After a year's rest she took up institutional work. She worked in a children's home in Wichita for several years. Later she worked in the Salem Home near Hillsboro, then transferred to the Bethesda Home in Goessel, where she worked until Aug. 1949 when her health broke down completely. She was loved by the old mothers, for she was always willing to do the little extras for them beyond the call of duty.

After she had to lay down her work, she made her home with her sisters. Lastly she was cared for by sister Lena until it became necessary to enter the hospital on June 14, 1953, with a very high fever which impaired her mind. Here she lingered for more than four years.

Her summons to be with the Lord came Sept. 28, 1957. She attained the age of 71 years, eight months and eight days. “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord henceforth, that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.” (Rev. 14:13).

She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. John (Anna) Buller of Buhler, Mrs. F. F. (Sarah) Matthies and Mrs. Albert (Rosina) Bartel of Newton, and Mrs. T. E. (Lydia) Linscheid of Rose Bud, Ark.; six brothers, P. D. Gaeddert of Newton, D. M. Gaeddert of Talala, Okla., Abe A. Gaeddert of Kansas City, Mo., H. B. Gaeddert and J. H. Gaeddert, both of Wichita, and L. F. Gaeddert of York, Penna. and many relatives and friends.
