MRS. PETER W. FUNK

Mrs. Maria Funk, the daughter of Rev. Jacob and Maria (Heinrichs) Funk, was born on May 7, 1865, in Praugeneau [sic], South Russia. She came to America with her parents in 1875 at the age of 10 years. They arrived on the train at Peabody, Kan. and came north to settle on a farm just east of the Brudertal Church near Hillsboro, Kan. She received some education and schooling under the teaching of H. H. Ewert.

On May 14, 1883, at the age of 18, she was baptized upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior by Elder Wilhelm Ewert. She was received into the membership of the Brudertal congregation at that time, and remained a faithful and devoted member until her death.

On March 5, 1885, she was married to Peter W. Funk, son of Cornelius and Aganeta (Wiebe) Funk. To this marriage were born three sons and one daughter. In addition to her devotion to her family, she also cared for her aged father-in-law for over 28 years, and for about two years provided a home for infant Inez Hiebert, who had lost her mother just after her birth.

Mother and father were permitted to enjoy their marriage for 68 years, two months, and 16 days. During this time they had the rare privilege of observing their silver, golden and diamond wedding anniversaries. After the death of father, she lived with her children in Hillsboro.

In July 1962 she entered the Bethesda Home in Goessel, and it is here that she spent her last two years. Her repeated prayers to enter the Homeland were finally answered on Friday evening, July 3, when she passed quietly into eternal rest and reunion with Christ. She lived 99 years, one month, and 26 days.

Her husband Peter, her son Peter, and her daughter Maria all preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her death two sons and their companions, Jacob F. and Elizabeth Funk and Adolf F. and Elizabeth Funk; 12 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
