MONTANA FARMER KILLED BY STROKE OF LIGHTNING; FUNERAL AT MOUNTAIN LAKE
Mountain Lake, Minn., May 15 — Funeral services for Jacob Funk, 46, were held from the Bergfelder church in Mountain Lake Thursday afternoon. The services were in charge of the Rev. H. H. Quiring. The Rev. John Bartel also spoke.
Mr. Funk, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Funk, who lives near Darfur, was killed May 4, about 8:15 p.m., when he was struck by lightning on the Jim Burns farm, 17 miles north of Brockton, Montana.
Mr. Funk and Mr. Burns were standing in the door of the barn waiting out a cloudburst. The storm was a very severe wind and rain storm.
A bolt of lightning struck the steel hay track near the roof of the barn and then traveled to Mr. Funk's body. Mr. Burns was also struck and was stunned by the bolt.
Mr. Funk was born April 14, 1895, near Darfur. He was a member of the Bethel church. In 1918 he married Katherine Wiebe at Glasgow, Montana. Five daughters survive his death, as do two grandchildren, his mother, four brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers at the services were Peter, John, George and Cornelius Fast, and Henry and John Flaming. Interment was made in the Mountain Lake cemetery. — Mt. Lake Observer.
