MRS. ANNA FUNK

Anna Funk, of Coaldale, Alta., was born to Abram and Aganetha Driediger on December 1, 1926, in Alexanderwohl, Russia.

She underwent much hardship and heartache during World War II. In 1941 her father was among those in her village who were forcefully evacuated, and she never saw him again. In 1943 her family, along with other German people in the area, were evacuated to Poland before the retreating German army. Anna continued her education in Poland, but with the Russian advances these studies were abruptly terminated, and she fled westward.

At the close of the war material and spiritual aid was sent to the needy in the war torn area. It was at this time that Anna responded to God's call and received personal salvation.

In 1948 Anna and her mother emigrated to Canada, and made Coaldale their home. Anna had the opportunity to attend Bible school in Coaldale for one winter, enriching her spiritual life. In 1949 she married John Funk, and three daughters and two sons were born to them, all of whom have accepted Christ as Saviour.

Anna was an industrious worker, and enjoyed good health until 1971, at which time she underwent surgery. The operation was successful, and her time on earth was extended, for which the family thanked the Lord. However, two years ago she developed a persistent cough, and in 1976 it was discovered that she had lung cancer. Many treatments followed, but in spite of this she expressed a cheerful attitude and trust in her God. The family stood beside her, praying, trusting and expecting with her. She was called home on March 14, at the age of 51. Her repeated, "I love you my Jesus," was her last spoken testimony of devotion to her Lord.

Anna expressed her deep feelings in poetry, was very creative and loved children. She worked as a German school teacher and assisted with VBS in the surrounding areas. She was a member of the Willing Helpers Ladies Club, and loved beauty, giving much care to lawn and flowers.

She will be deeply missed by her husband John; daughter (Mrs.) Margaret Brown and her husband Daryl of Coaldale, Alta.; daughter (Mrs.) Nettie Wiens and her husband Henry of Winnipeg; son John of Calgary and Jake at home; her mother; a brother Jacob in Russia; and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a daughter Elsie, who died in infancy, and her father, who passed away in Russia.
