MRS. MAGDALENA FROESE

Magdalena Janzen Froese, daughter of Heinrich and Katherine Janzen, was born in Russia Feb. 12, 1882, and passed away at 12:50 a. m. Jan. 22, 1956, at her home near Inola, Okla. at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 10 days.

In 1885 the family migrated to the United States and settled in Marion County, Kansas. In 1893 they moved near El Reno, Okla. where she grew to womanhood.

In 1900 her father died and the family moved to Washita County, Okla. where they made their home with Henry Froese. In 1901, on confession of faith, she was baptized by Elder Michael Klaassen and became a member of Herold Church.

August 15, 1901, she was united in holy wedlock with Jacob Froese. To this union six boys and three girls were born. Two died in infancy and one married son died Jan. 7, 1955. Jan. 1, 1912, the family moved to Vinita, and after six years moved to Inola. They transferred their membership to the Eden Mennonite Church where she remained a faithful member until her death.

She was a dear, loving wife and mother and sang with her children a great deal. In 1942 she suffered a light stroke but was able to continue caring for her home. In 1948 she had another stoke which brought her near death so that for a time she could neither speak nor swallow food, but the Lord restored her strength so that she could talk and walk about in her home when assisted. Though she loved to visit her friends and attend church, she was able to go only a few times in the past eight years.

On August 15, 1951, she was able to attend the celebration commemorating their 50th wedding anniversary.

In September, 1955, she became ill and at the hospital X-rays revealed a broken hip. For the past nine months she had been bedfast, receiving loving care from her husband and children. She became steadily weaker until Sunday morning when she quietly, without evidence of pain, left us to be with her Lord.

She leaves to mourn her passing her bereaved husband; six children, Jake, Ralph, Art, and Louis, all of Inola, Mrs. H. K. Jantzen of Clinton, Okla. and Mrs. Guy Page of Boise, Idaho; 16 grandchildren; 1 brother, Rudolph Janzen of Whitewater, Kans.; and many relatives and friends. One son, Bernhard, and three grandchildren preceded her in death.
