MRS. GERHARD E. FRIESEN

Katherina Huebert Friesen, daughter of Peter P. and Margaret Peters Huebert, was born March 1, 1892 in the Henderson, Neb. community and departed this life to be with the Lord on July 21, 1965, at the age of 73 years, four months and 21 days. Her entire life was lived in the Henderson community where she also took advantage of such educational opportunities as were offered.

Early in life she received Christ as her Savior and was baptized upon the confession of her faith by Rev. H. H. Epp and received into the fellowship of the Bethesda Mennonite Church where she remained faithful and loyal until her home going.

On Feb. 15, 1912, she was united in marriage with Gerhard E. Friesen. Together they shared the many joys of life for more than 53 years. A special joy was the commemoration of their 50th wedding anniversary in 1962.

She was a faithful and loving wife and mother. We are grateful that she was one who loved God and had a deep respect for His Word. We praise Him for the memory of a mother who taught us the love of Jesus early in life. She also taught us the beauty in simple things and an appreciation for honest toil. From her we learned lessons of giving our lives in service for others. She found great joy in serving with her hands. The many layettes she sewed are used today as a witness for Christ in Africa. The quilt patches which she sewed for relief number into the multiplied thousands.

Her warmth and humor still cheer us as we think of days when we had fellowship with her in person. We are likewise content to know that her home going was God's doing and rejoice in the knowledge that in His presence there is fullness of joy.

Survivors include her husband of the home; five children, David H. and wife Anna, Marie and husband John T. Friesen, Ruben H. and wife Esther, Levi H. and wife Elizabeth, all of the Henderson community, and Tena and husband Arnold Epp of Newton, Kan.; 19 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. George M. Epp, Mrs. David M. Epp and Mrs. John G. Friesen.

We find new meaning in the words of Job 1:21, “the Lord gave, the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
