MRS. ELIZABETH FRIESEN

Mrs. Elizabeth Becker Friesen was born in Russia on April 10, 1871, and passed away at the Halstead hospital on Nov. 1, 1954. She reached the age of 83 years, six months and 22 days.

In 1874, at the age of three years, she with her parents came to America. She grew to womanhood near Halstead. At the age of 27 years, she remembered her Creator by yielding her heart and life to the Lord. Upon confession of her faith, she was baptized on April 10, 1894, and added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, remaining a faithful member to the end.

On June 18, 1899, she was united in marriage to John H. Friesen, who preceded her in death over 19 years ago, after having shared joys and sorrows for 36 years.

She lived with her husband at different places, including Inman, Montezuma, and the latter years near Halstead. Her husband passed away while living at Halstead and she remained with her two youngest daughters, Elizabeth and Sue. In 1945, she began making her home with another daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Koehn.

On Oct. 19 she became seriously ill and was taken to the Halstead hospital where, after 13 days, it pleased our Heavenly Father to relieve her of all suffering. She quietly and peacefully fell asleep at one o’clock in the morning on Monday, Nov. 1.

She was a kind and loving Christian mother, ever having at heart the welfare of her loved ones. She loved to read her Bible and attend the place of worship.

She leaves to mourn her passing six daughters and six sons, Sue and Elizabeth of Wichita, Ike of Plainville, Kansas, Sarah (Mrs. Ed. Koehn) of Halstead, Dick of Montezuma, Pete of Conway, Jake of Livingston, Calif., Henry of Montezuma, Lena (Mrs. George Toews) of Inman, Kathryn (Mrs. Pete Bergen) of Great Bend, Nettie (Mrs. Pete Harms) of Montezuma, George of Reedley, Calif., 29 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, one sister and many other relatives.

Her husband, two sons, Ben and John, and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Mrs. Friesen were held in the Grace Mennonite church of Halstead on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 4. 1954, at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Carl Dirks and Rev. Paul Becker were the officiating ministers. The church choir sang a number of hymns. The directors of the Kaufman Funeral Home were in charge of funeral services and burial was in the family lot in the Halstead cemetery.
