CORNELIUS I. FRIESEN

Cornelius I. Friesen, son of Isaac and Tina Dick Friesen, was born in Shoensee, South Russia on Sept. 2, 1887. At the age of six he emigrated to the United States, going to Henderson, Neb. where he received his education and worked as a farm laborer before his marriage.

On June 28, 1914 he was baptized upon his confession of faith by Rev. David S. Schultz and became a member of the Salem Mennonite Church of Munich, N. D. He remained a member until his death.

On July 8, 1915 he was united in marriage with Sarah Thiessen. This union remained for 50 years. It was blessed with three children. A son Isaac died at birth.

He farmed in the Munich and Alsen areas from the time of his marriage until 1956 when he retired and moved to Grand Forks, N. D.

On March 31, 1965 he was stricken with a slight stroke and a fractured vertebrae, but later regained his health again. On June 6, 1965 Mr. and Mrs. Friesen were honored at their golden wedding anniversary. Shortly afterward he was stricken with illness which hospitalized him for one month, and thereafter he became a patient at the nursing home at Northwood, N. D. where he remained until his death. On Sept. 9, 1965 he departed to be with his Lord at the age of 78 years and seven days.

He leaves to mourn his wife Sarah; his daughter Esther of Grand Forks; a son, Rev. Abraham Friesen and daughter-in-law Emma Friesen of Fortuna, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
