SUSAN BULLER FRIESEN

Our loving wife and mother, Susan Buller Friesen, was born on Oct. 17, 1909, at Birmingham, Ohio, where her parents were laboring in Rev. Sprunger's orphanage. When Susan was but a young child her parents, John and Elizabeth Buller, moved to Jansen, Neb. Here she spent her childhood days and attended the public schools of Fairbury, Neb.

At the age of about 22 she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was baptized upon the confession of her faith and united with the Mennonite Brethren Church for fellowship.

On March 29, 1935, she was united to Herman Friesen in holy matrimony in the M. B. Church of Jansen, Neb. This marriage which lasted 22 years, 11 months, and five days, was blessed with two sons, James of Simpson Bible College in San Francisco, and Gorden [sic Gordon] of the home.

After their marriage, they moved to Delft, Minn. where they resided for a time. In 1942, the Lord led them to Reedley, Calif. where they have made their home since.

Our precious wife and mother was devoted to the Lord and knew what it meant to walk with Jesus as her Savior. She was fond of God's Word and ever sought a deeper life with her Savior. Her great concern was that the sons whom the Lord had entrusted to them should be men of God who were willing to sacrifice in order that they might serve Him and work in his vineyard.

Although she had never been a very strong person, she enjoyed comparatively good health till about a year ago. At that time she took ill and her illness was reported to be malignant in nature and in a rather advanced stage. Though this brought a cloud of sorrow over our home, she took it as from the hand of the Lord and showed her willingness to bear it gently if this was the Lord's will. Like Paul of old, she besought the Lord in a special way to remove this enemy of the flesh. However, she then rested in the Lord, and has been a patient sufferer.

About four weeks ago she developed a definite longing to depart and be with the Lord. In the early morning hour of Feb. 22,1958, about 1:30, she closed her eyes in a soft sleep as her soul departed to be with the Lord.

We rejoice that the Lord has relieved her of her earthly suffering. Her memory and prayers will linger as we are daily reminded of our treasure in heaven. She reached the age of 48 years, three months and 23 days.

Those who remain to mourn her departure are her husband, Herman Friesen of Reedley; two sons, James and Gorden [sic Gordon]; her aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Buller of Jansen, Neb.; five brothers, Albert Buller of Odell, Neb., William Buller of Beatrice, Neb., Bernhardt Buller of Sacramento, Calif., John Buller of Jansen, Neb.; two sisters, Ann Buller of Jansen, and Esther, Mrs. Bernie Kroeker, Chicago.

Besides these, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, as well as many relatives and friends remember us at this time. Her father preceded her in death in 1949.

Funeral services were conducted in the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church on Tuesday, Feb. 25, with Rev. Dan Friesen and Rev. H. R. Wiens officiating.
