Pauline Nickel Friesen, daughter of John and Aganatha [sic Aganetha] Block Nickel, was born on Aug. 7, 1886 near Canton, Kan. She attended school west of Canton, and in 1901 moved with her parents to Hillsboro.
As a teenage girl she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and on Oct. 8, 1905 was baptized upon her confession of faith by Rev. John Harms and united with the Mennonite Brethren Church.
On April 6, 1910, she was united to John C. Friesen in holy matrimony. This union, which lasted 53 years, 10 months and 26 days, was blessed with seven children.
On April 3, 1960, we had the joy of commemorating our golden wedding anniversary. She had ben ill of diabetes and hardening of the arteries for many years. On Sept. 1, 1960, she went to the hospital ward in the Reedley Home for the Aged and stayed there till the Lord took her home to glory.
Our first home was near Hillsboro, Kan. on a farm, and in 1934 we moved to San Jose but returned to Reedley in 1951 where we had the joy of building a new home. From this new home we had to transfer to the Home for the Aged in 1960. It was very difficult when our beloved wife and mother lost her eyesight. On March 1, 1964 about 9 a.m. the Lord called her home to glory. She reached the age of 77 years, six months and 25 days.
Those who remain to mourn her departure are: Her husband, John C. Friesen of Reedley; four daughters, (Frieda) Mrs. J. Wesley Hagen of Cimarron, Kan., (Ellen) Mrs. John F. Krause of Reedley, (Melba) Mrs. Elmer Nachigall [sic Nachtigall] of San Jose, (Clara) Mrs. George Duerksen of Fresno; three sons, Wallace of Planada, Calif., Benny of Fresno, and Elmer of Fresno; 20 grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren, four sons-in-law; three daughters-in-law; one sister, (Minnie) Mrs. John Duerksen, Fairview, Okla.
