— Funeral services for G. F. Friesen, 83, a well known former Lehigh grain dealer and for several years a resident of North Newton, were held Friday morning, July 31, at the First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro. He died Tuesday, July 28, at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro after a brief illness. Rev. Peter Goering, pastor of the Lehigh Mennonite Church, officiated at the services. Born Dec 29, 1886, in the Gnadenau community, Mr. Friesen attended the country school there, also the Penner Academy in Hillsboro and Bethel Academy at Newton. Oct 14, 1914, he married Helena Jantzen, who preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 1968. After leaving North Newton in 1966, the Friesens lived at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro but for the last two years he was a resident of Shiloh Manor at Canton. Survivors include two daughters and one son, Mrs. Fred McElwain, Hutchinson, Mrs. Reginald Buxton, Ransom, and Max Friesen, Overbrook; a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, P. F. of Hillsboro, D. F. of Tulsa, Okla., and Dr. H. E. of Wichita; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Kaiser and Mrs. Tina Klassen, both of Hillsboro, and Mrs. Eliz. Martens of El Dorado.
