GEORGE ROBERT FRIESEN

George Robert Friesen of Vauxhall, Alta. passed away Mar. 29 of cancer. He was born Aug. 25, 1920 to George and Maria Friesen in Steinfeld, southern Russia. In 1926 the family immigrated to Rosthern, Sask. In his early teens he accepted Christ at Vacation Bible School. The family moved to Coaldale, Alta. in 1935 and he began working on a large sheep ranch. In 1939 the family moved to Vauxhall, Alta. He was baptized and joined Vauxhall MB Church in 1939, after having attended a semester of Bible school in Coaldale. He worked for a grain farmer until he could buy his own farm in 1945. He married Katie Rempel Sept. 29, 1946. He remained on the farm until his death. His heart for God's work was expressed through a lifetime of support for Vauxhall MB Church and the community. He was on many boards, including the Vauxhall Co-op, Gas Co-op, sugar beet board, vegetable marketing board and stock grazing association. In the church he was chair of the deacons council and sang at various functions and in the choir. He is remembered for his quiet trust in God, generosity, contentment and acceptance of others. Predeceased by 1 brother, he is mourned by his wife; children Esther Friesen of Beaverlodge, Alta ., Lawrence of Aldergrove, B.C., Dorthy Friesen of Grande Prairie, Alta. and Allan, Joyce Wall and George of Vauxhall; 30 grandchildren; 5 sisters and 4 brothers. The funeral was Apr. 1 in Vauxhall MB Church, with Henry Unruh, Gerhard Reimer and Adam Wiggins ministering.
