GEORGE D. FRIESEN

George D. Friesen, son of Dietrich and Marie Friesen, was born on May 1, 1884, near Hampton, Hamilton County, Neb. near this town he spent his early years on the family farm.

On June 12, 1905, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. He was baptized by Elder Peter J. Friesen upon his confession of faith and received into the Bethesda Mennonite Church of Henderson, Neb.

He was united in holy matrimony to Katherine Epp on Dec. 13, 1906. They were then members of the Bethesda Mennonite Church until they moved to Madrid, Neb. in 1926, later becoming members of the Mennonite church there. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for 49 years. They would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Dec.13 of this year. They have spent the years engaged in farming, retiring to a home in town in 1949. five of the intervening years were spent in Salem, Oregon.

Mr. Friesen had been ill for some time, and had been a resident of the Ogallala Nursing Home, Ogallala, Neb. for the past six weeks. He passed away August 11, 1956. Three sons prece3ded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, and the following children: Gus E. of Madrid; Ben A. of Salem, Oregon; Margaret, Mrs. Alvin Wiebe of Dalhart, Texas; Alma, Mrs. Darryl Hoffman of Nelson, Neb.; Howard H. of Dallas, Oregon; and Lavina, Mrs. Donald Brixious of Ordway, Colo. there are also 17 grandchildren and the following brothers: Dietrich and Peter of Henderson and Henry of Lushton; and one sister, Mrs. G. J. Friesen of Henderson.

Mr. Friesen's one desire as a Christian was always to "live for Christ." In his later years especially, he came to love dearly many of the great hymns of the church. Many times did he sit down and read through the words of "Ich Weiss Einen Strom."
