Services Held For Mother & Child
FATAL ACCIDENT IN MANITOBA WHILE TAKING GIRL TO HOSPITAL
Altona, Man. — An unusual and tragic chain of events on Aug. 20 claimed the lives of Mrs. Catherine Friesen, 31, of Lowe Farm and her two-year-old daughter Ruth.
Both were passengers in a car which was speeding to the hospital for treatment of critical injuries suffered by the little girl when she was bitten by a pet dog. The car went out of control near Mordon and turned over three times, killing Mrs. Friesen instantly and seriously injuring her husband, Peter Friesen.
Although not definitely determined, it was thought the child may have died before the accident, as she had a severe throat wound inflicted by the dog. John Friesen, brother of Peter and driver of the car, escaped unhurt.
Double funeral services for the mother and her child were held at the Grossweide M. B. church on Aug. 25.
