Anna Friesen, daughter of Henry and Anna (Penner) Bergen, was born on July 29, 1913, in York county, Neb. She attained the age of 43 years, 10 months, and 22 days.
She was baptized upon the confession of her faith and was received as a member into the Bethesda Church at Henderson, Neb. on May 10, 1931, of which she remained a faithful member until her death.
On OCt. [sic] 20, 1935, she was united in holy matrimony with Irwin M. Friesen. For 21 years and eight months they were permitted to share their joys and sorrows together. this union was blessed with two daughters, Virginia Ann and Carolyn Kay. For the past 15 years they have made their home on a farm one and one-half miles southwest of Hampton, Neb.
She received her elementary education in York County schools. She also attended Bethesda Bible School.
Mother lived a very unselfish life. She was always willing to help anyone at any time, often in great sacrifice of her own health. She was a living testimony to all who knew her, even during the last hours of her life. She gained her confidence and faith from her favorite Bible verse, Psalms 27:14, "Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, on the Lord."
She was very active as leader of a 4-H Club in Hamilton County for six years, but had to discontinue because of her health. She was a charter member of the Beaver Valley Women's Club. She was a faithful member of Bethesda Mission Circle II.
Her health had been failing for quite some time. She submitted to three major operations — two at Henderson, on March 30 and on April 23, and one June 5 at Rochester, Minn. It was then that she learned of her condition and began to "Wait upon the Lord." She passed away at her home on June 20, 1957, at 9:05 a. m.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Irwin; two daughters, Virginia Ann, 20, and Carolyn Kay, 15; her father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bergen Sr., of Henderson; one sister, Mary, Mrs. Ben Ediger, Hampton; four brothers, Ike and Henry Jr., Sutton, Harley, Henderson, Eugene, Lushton; her mother-in-law, Mrs. G. J. Friesen; seven brothers-in-law; 10 sisters-in-law; 33 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. her mother preceded her in death on March 16, 1956.
