ABRAHAM B. FRIESEN

Abraham B. Friesen, son of Abraham C. and Helena Arahams [sic Abrahams] Friesen, was born on September 8,1873, as the eldest child, in the village Pastwa near Berdjansk, South Russia.

He received his education in Berdjansk. After completing his schooling he spent a number of years with his aunt, Mrs. Bernhard Dick. He emmigrated [sic] with his parents to this county in 1891 and worked the first years in a drug store in Inman, Kansas, for John Pankratz. Afterwards he took up farming and threshiang ner Burrton. Later he went to Dubois, Idaho, where he took up a claim and continued to farm.

Because of severe drought the settlement there broke up. He took employment with a construction company, where he met with an accident which affected his eyesight and disabled him for work. His last years he spent in Newton where his health was generally declining. His bad eyesight made it difficult for him to read, yet in spite of that he read much and enjoyed constructive reading. Now his earthly life has come to a close but it continues in the Great Beyond where Christ, his Saviour, has prepared for him a home.

When the Home Mission Board started regular meetings in Burrton he was with the first group taking catechetical instruction and was baptized September 30, 1906, by Rev. H. P. Krehbiel. When the Burrton Mennonite church was organized on June 30, 1907, he joined as a charter member and has retained his membership here. He departed this life at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital on May 30, 1946, at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 22 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his brothers and sisters, Mrs. David P. Froese of Hutchinson, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Epp of Hutchinson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Friesen of Burrton, Peter A. Friesen of Moundridge and Mrs. H. P. Krehbiel of Newton, and his nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Burrton Mennonite church, June 2, at 2:30 p. m. with Rev. Arnold A. Epp,pastor, in charge. A quartet composed of Mrs. Arnold A. Epp, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Dalke and Isaac Penner sang. Pall bearers were Abe Froese, Cornelius F. Epp, Henry Janzen, Clarence Martens, Ben Regier and John Froese. Interment in the Burrton Cemetery.
