— Mrs. Anna Frey, 71, died Sunday morning at Bethel Deaconess Hospital. A former resident of the Goessel community, she had lived in Newton since the death of her husband, Herman J. Frey, 16 years ago. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Mennonite Church, Rev. Arnold Epp in charge. Burial was made in the Tabor Church cemetery. Survivors, include three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Fleming of Newton, Mrs. Willard Regehr of Elbing and Mrs. Estil Phelps of Shelbyville, Ind.; one son, Abe, of Fredonia; four sisters and three brothers.

MRS. ANNA (NIKKEL) FREY

Anna Nikkel Frey, daughter of Abraham J. and Sara Buller Nikkel, was born near Canton, Kansas on April 5, 1890, and departed this life at Newton, Kansas on Oct. 1, 1961.

Her mother passed away when she was a small child. Grandfather remarried, giving the family another mother.

Mother accepted Christ as her Saviour and Lord in her youth. She was baptized by Rev. H. R. Voth and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel on June 7, 1908.

On August 19, 1914, she was united in holy matrimony with Herman J. Frey and then joined the Tabor Mennonite Church at Goessel where she remained a member until her death. Our parents lived in the Goessel community until 1938 when they moved to Fredonia, Kansas. Here they helped to establish the Bell Mennonite Sunday School.

On Feb. 10, 1945 father passed away after 30 years of married life. In the summer of 1945 mother moved to Newton, Kansas, where she spent the rest of her life. She attended the First Mennonite Church, being very appreciative of the fellowship and spiritual guidance she received there.

Mother showed a constant interest in the welfare of her family and as a result she prayed daily for our well-being.

She had been in failing health for some time, but became seriously ill on Saturday evening, Sept. 23, and departed this life on Oct. 1, reaching the age of 71 years, five months, and 25 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and three sisters, Katharina, Sara, and Martha.

Survivors include three daughters and one son with their families, Elma, Mrs. Willard Regier of Newton, Abe Frey of Fredonia, Rosella, Mrs. Thomas Fleming of Newton, and Elfrieda, Mrs. Estil Phelps of Shelbyville, Ind.; 13 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; four sisters, Marie, Mrs. Peter Buller of Lehigh, Elizabeth, Mrs. Adolph Funk of Hillsboro, Esther, Mrs. Rudolph Klassen of Moundridge, and Mathilda, Mrs. Rufus Unrau of Lehigh; three brothers, Henry Nikkel of Canton, Jacob Nikkel of North Newton, and Theodore Nikkel of Canton; nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends. — The Family.
