• Amadeus Frey, 61, who operated a watch and clock repair business at the home on East Broadway, died Sunday evening at Bethel Deaconess Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital Saturday evening after suffering a stroke of paralysis. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, and funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, with Rev. Arnold Epp and Rev. Paul Isaak in charge. Surviving Mr. Frey are his wife, the former Elizabeth Hiebert; two sons, Glenn E. of Newton and Dennis L. of Hutchinson; two brothers and one grandchild.

AMADEUS FREY

Amadeus Frey was born July 20, 1905 to Cornelius J. and Anna Balzer Frey at Goessel, Kan. He paused away suddenly at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Newton, Kan., on Feb. 19, 1967, having suffered a stroke less than 24 hours earlier.

He was baptized on June 4, 1922, by Rev. P. H. Richert and united with the Tabor Mennonite Church near Goessel. Later he became a member of the First Mennonite Church, Hillsboro, Kan. in 1946, he with his wife and children moved to Newton and he became a member of the First Mennonite Church here.

During his childhood years his parents served as missionaries to the Indian Americans at Oraibi, Ariz. He was nine years old when his father died and the family moved back to Goessel. He received his elementary education in a school near Goessel and graduated from high school at Hillsboro. He was able to take some courses at Tabor College, Hillsboro, during his senior year in high school.

On April 10, 1938, he married Elisabeth Hiebert. To this home two sons were born. He was a watchmaker by trade and continued in this until his passing. His family knew him as a faithful husband and father. He worked hard and enjoyed his work, even with his physical limitations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by Rachel, an Indian girl who was a foster-sister.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Glenn of Newton and Dennis of Hutchinson, and their companions; one granddaughter; and two brothers, Jonathan of Orosi, Calif. and Mildor of Newton.
