Lansdale Correspondent Dies at Age of 82

Lansdale, Pa. — A memorial service was held at the Grace Mennonite Church, Lansdale, Pa., on Mar. 7 for Osmund R. Fretz, 82, who died Feb. 27 at Sellersville.

Fretz had been a Mennonite Weekly Review correspondent for that church, where he was a charter member and had taught a Sunday school class for 50 years. He was a retired employee of Pennsylvania Power and Light Company.

He is survived by his widow, Margaret (Smith); a daughter, Margaret Morrow; two sons, Osmund and William; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He had written out much of the memorial service himself, exactly four years before he died.

OSMUND P. R. FRETZ I

Osmund Philemon Rittenhouse Fretz I was born Mar. 22, 1899 at Souderton, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He died Feb. 27, 1982 at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, Pa.

He was educated in the public schools of Souderton and Perkasie, Pa. He taught school one term and later graduated with a B.S. degree from Penn State.

For several years he was an education agent for the Philadelphia Inter-State Dairy Council. He was also a veteran of 34 years of service with the Pennsylvania Power and Light company, retiring on Apr. 1, 1964.

He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in November, 1918, having served only three months when the armistice was signed to end World War I.

He was the youngest son of Allen M. and Anna Rittenhouse Fretz of Perkasie, Pa.

He was a charter member of Grace Mennonite Church, Lansdale, where he taught a Sunday school class for 50 years, starting in 1931.

Surviving are his widow, Margaret Smith Fretz; a daughter, Margaret Morrow; two sons, Osmund II and William A. ; two granddaughters; seven grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
