• Peter J. Franz, 86, died Sunday at St. Luke's Hospital in Marion. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Alexanderwohl Church near Goessel, with Rev. Aaron Epp officiating. A native of McPherson County, Mr. Franz farmed in the Goessel community and, beginning in 1929, in Thomas County, Kan. Except for 18 months' residence in Hillsboro in the 1940s, he and his wife lived in Thomas County until 1963, when they entered the Bethesda Home at Goessel. Mrs. Franz died in 1967. Mr. Franz had received care in rest homes in Haven, Peabody, and Marion. Surviving are sons Jacob S. of Walton and Peter A. of Lodi, Calif., four daughters, Mrs. Alvin Goossen of Newton, Mrs. Dan Epp and Mrs. Hulda Goossen, both of Colby, Kan. and Mrs. Ernest Jantzen of Plymouth, Neb.; 28 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Helena Bestvater of rural Canton.
