• Minnie Franz, 80, widow of Jacob A. Franz, died Monday in Salem Hospital at Hillsboro. She suffered a broken hip some time ago, and had been confined to the hospital since then. The funeral is to be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hillsboro M. B. Church, with Rev. Marvin Hein in charge. Mrs. Franz was a former resident of the Buhler-Inman vicinity, but had lived at Hillsboro since 1933. She leaves three daughters, two sons, four step-sons, two step-daughters, four brothers and four sisters.

MRS. MINNIE FRANZ

Mrs. Minnie Franz, daughter of Benjamin and Marie Bartel Funk, was born Nov. 21, 1884 on a farm north of Hillsboro, Kan. She was reared in the French Creek community near Hillsboro. In her youth she was converted during revival services, was baptized and joined the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.

In March 1915 she was married to Jacob A. Franz and with the marriage accepted the care of six children. They moved to a farm east of Inman and later lived on farms near Buhler. The Lord in his goodness blessed their union with six children, one of whom died when very young.

In September of 1929 our father was killed in a car-train accident and this left out mother a widow with small children. Her courage and God’s strength enabled her to rear this family and she remained grateful for the privilege of being God’s servant in this way.

Our mother moved to Hillsboro in 1933 and lived in her own home until a little more than two years ago, when she moved to the Salem Home for the Aged. A year last August she suffered a broken hip. She was hospitalized for several months, and then moved back into the Home, but never regained her strength completely. About 12 weeks ago she was again hospitalized. The Lord in His mercy called her to Himself on Dec. 21, 1964 at the age of 80 years and one month.

Mother accepted all of us as one happy family. Daily she prayed for us, and we rejoice in the blessing she has been to us.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lillian, her husband, and two grandchildren. Surviving are 11 children and their companions: Jacob of Hillsboro, David of Buhler, George of Buhler, Peter of Indianapolis, Katherine, Mrs. Ed Schmidt of Wichita, Anna, Mrs. Herman Neufeld of Dallas, Ore., Martha, Mrs. Frank W. Peters of Hillsboro, Alice, Mrs. Ernest W. Peters of Medora, Helen, Mrs. Sam Jost of Collinsville, Okla., Paul of Wichita, and Joel of Hillsboro.

Also surviving are 31 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters, Paul Funk, Mrs. J. P. Baltzer, Mrs. C. C. Duerksen, Herman Funk, Mrs. P. J. Koop, Mrs. R. A. Ratzlaff, Ben Funk, and Harry Funk. all of Hillsboro.
