— Funeral services were held at the Alexanderwohl church near Goessel Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. H. J. Franz, 80, who died at the home in Goessel Sunday afternoon. Born in Russia in 1875, Mrs. Franz was a long time resident of the Goessel community. She leaves a daughter, Anna of the home, and two sons, Arnold of rural Canton and Herbert, music instructor at the Goessel Rural High school.

MRS. AGNES FRANZ

Mrs. Agnes Quiring Franz was born March 29, 1875, in South Russia and emigrated to this country with her parents in 1875, when about two weeks old.

She received her educational training in the Pleasant Valley school in McPherson county, Kan.

She was baptized upon confession of faith in her Redeemer by Rev. Jacob Buller June 6, 1892, and became a member of the Alexanderwohl church, whose faithful member she remained until her death.

On April 10, 1895, she was married to Henry J. Franz with whom she shared life’s joys and sorrows until Nov. 20, 1923, when he was taken in death. This left the mother with her three children, Anna, Arnold, and Herbert, who were left to face life alone. However God’s presence and providential care was always with the family and the words of Jeremiah 21:3 were accomplished: “Yes, I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.”

The departed mother and her husband lived for a number of years on the farm northwest of Goessel. Later they moved to Goessel where they took over the Heinrich’s Store, which later became the Franz Brothers Store and which served the town and community for many years.

The mother enjoyed good health during her life. Only in the latter part of her life were the infirmities of old age noticeable, and her health began to decline gradually. She passed away suddenly at her home on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 3, 1955, reaching the age of 80 years, six months and four days.

She leaves to mourn her sudden departure Anna and Herbert of the home, Arnold and his wife Dora of Canton, Kan.; one grandchild, Ilene Roth; one sister, Mrs. F. H. Banman; and one half-sister, Marie Quiring; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. P. P. Quiring, Mrs. Jacob Quiring and Mrs. Abe Quiring; one brother-in-law, Frank H. Banman; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. One grandchild, Arnold Henry preceded her in death.

“For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers. Our days on the earth are as a shadow and there is none abiding.” I Chron. 29:15.

Funeral services were held in the Bergen Funeral Home and in the Alexanderwohl church Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 5, in charge of Rev. P. A. Wedel. Interment was made in the Alexanderwohl church cemetery.
