When he was 14 years old, his father took part in the "run" for homesteads in Oklahoma. Soon after that, the family moved to a place northwest of Orienta. His early life was typical of the struggles of pioneer families. He engaged in farming and in farming interests up to the time of his passing.

He was baptized on July 17, 1904 and later joined the Saron Mennonite Church. He was married on Sept. 2, 1909 to Elizabeth Lohrenz. To this marriage a son, Waldo Orlando, was born. Elizabeth passed away on Feb. 18, 1911. Their son, Waldo, died in infancy on May 9, 1911.

On Oct. 21, 1911, he married our mother, Katharine Reimer, at Buhler, Kan. Five children were born to this union. Our parents lived on their farm south and west of Orienta for 39 years. They were active in all phases of community life.

In 1950 he and mother retired and moved to Fairview, where they enjoyed their comfortable home. After 45 years of a happy marriage, mother passed away on Sept. 4, 1957. Father lived alone until September 1965 when he entered the Fairview Fellowship Home, residing there until his death.

He always believed in the philosophy that any job worth doing, was worth doing well. He was a dedicated Christian, a kind, gentle and loving father.

He leaves to mourn his departure three sons, Ernest of Woodland, Calif., Marvin of Ponca City, Okla., and Milton of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Wilma, Mrs. Vaughn Costley of Prairie Village, Kan., and Hilda, Mrs. Guy Parks of McAlester, Okla.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Henry and Cornelius of Fairview, Peter E. of Newton, Kan., and William of Orienta; two sisters, Mrs. Bena Ratzlaff of Fairview and Mrs. Anna Regier of Reedley, Calif. — The Family.
