JOHN L. FOTH

John L. Foth, son of Rev. John S. and Helena Lohrenz Foth, was born on June 9, 1901 on a farm eight miles southwest of Hillsboro, Kan. He attended the Steinbach Elementary School.

On Dec. 30, 1920, his father died and the operation and management of the farm largely fell upon his shoulders. His brother Jacob and sister Helen eventually married and established their own homes, but John stayed with his mother on the home farm.

During the Dr. R. A. Torrey evangelistic services at Tabor College he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ. Subsequently he was baptized and received into the membership of the Goessel Mennonite Brethren Church. However, even before this he had been active in Sunday school and sang in the small choir which was directed by his brother Henry. When the Goessel church was dissolved, he transferred his membership to the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church.

As mother's eyesight began to fail, she leaned more and more heavily on John's loving care. In 1952 it became necessary to transfer mother to the Hillsboro Home for the Aged. This left John alone on the farm.

His mother died August 14, 1962. In 1963 John moved to the Hillsboro Home for the Aged where he spent the remaining years of his life.

On March 8 he became seriously ill and it was necessary to submit to an operation. He died March 10, 1967, in Salem Hospital.

He leaves to mourn one sister, Mrs. H. H. (Helen) Loewen of Wichita, Kan., and one brother, Henry of Oklahoma City, Okla.; nine nephews and nieces; 18 grand-nephews, and grand-nieces; two uncles, many relatives and friends.

Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
