Paulina Foote
Hillsboro, Kan. — Paulina Foote, Mennonite Brethren Conference missionary to China from 1922 to 1946, who was a resident in the Home for the Aged, Corn, Okla., died Jan. 6 at the age of 76.

The memorial service will be held in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church Jan. 11 and burial will be in the cemetery south of Corn.

Miss Foote left for China in 1922 and returned in 1929. She went back in 1934 for a second term and stayed until 1946.

She wanted to return for further service, but the communist takeover and her health prevented her. But as long as her health permitted, she submitted reports for publication on the experiences and difficulties of Christians in China.

Her service in China included work among women and young people, personal and village evangelism, and teaching in schools for Chinese and missionary children.

When other missionaries were evacuated in 1927 because of communist activities, she remained in China.

When the Japanese occupied the area in which she served, she fled into Free China where she continued to work until 1946.

In 1962 she published a 228-page book entitled, "God's Hand Over My 19 Years in China" and contributed its sales to Mennonite Brethren missions overseas.

Miss Foote was born in Marion County, Kan. in 1891 and moved to Oklahoma with her parents where she became a member of the Corn M. B. Church. Later she graduated from Tabor College.

Her surviving brother and sisters are: Albert, Minneapolis, Min.; Eva, Mrs. Aaron Krause, Enid, Okla.; Anna, Mrs. Ottto Miller, Bessie, Okla.; Lydia and Martha, Corn; and Manuel, Clinton, Okla.
