JOHN W. FLAMING

John W. Flaming, the son of Rev. John and Mary Enns Flaming, was born on March 21, 1897, near Corn, Okla. On Oct. 29, 1955, he departed this life and suddenly near Reedley, Calif. and was ushered into the presence of his blessed Savior and Lord. He reached the age of 58 years, seven months and eight days.

He grew up to manhood in the community where he was born. He finished his elementary education in the home district school and attended the Corn Bible School for one year where Prof. J. F. Duerksen was the instructor.

He was a hard worker, being a great help to his father who was a minister. As a young man he spent some time farming in Louisiana. Later he returned to the Corn community and engaged in farming there also.

On Sept.7, 1927, he joined hands with Martha Krause in holy wedlock at Hooker, Okla. They established their home on a farm near Corn, Okla. And lived there till 1935, when they moved to Kansas City, Mo., where they lived for several months. In 1936 they moved to the Reedley, Calif. area. Here also they were engaged in farming. He worked hard and was a good provider for his family.

This union was blessed with two children, one son and one daughter. We have enjoyed a happy family life.

He had a wonderful conversion experience in 1940 when Dr. A. J. Harms was conducting revival meetings in the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church, and later was baptized by Rev. G. B. Huebert and joined the fellowship of the local Mennonite Brethren church. Of late the song, “There is a Balm in Gilead,” meant much to him.

He was a quiet man but a man of his word. He loved his family dearly, being deeply concerned for our spiritual and material welfare. He enjoyed good health to the end, when he suffered a heart attack. In about an hour after the attack he left this world to be with Christ.

He leaves to mourn his all too sudden departure his wife, Mrs. Martha Flaming; his son, Joel, and his daughter, La Donna, all of Reedley, Calif.; six brothers, peter Flaming and Clinton Flaming of Clinton, Okla., E. B. Flaming of Reedley, Calif., Fred Flaming, Alvin Flaming and Clarence Flaming, all of Weatherford, Okla.; two sisters, Mary, Mrs. H. N. Kroeker, Corn, Okla., and Lydia, Mrs. G. N. Kroeker, Clinton, Okla.; and many other relatives and friends.
