HENRY H. FLAMING

Henry H. Flaming, son of Rev. Peter Flaming and Katharina Kliewer, was born in McPherson county, Kansas on September 30, 1885. Here he grew up and attended the public school. Later he attended the academy at Hillsboro, Kansas, and in 1918 graduated from the school of mortitians [sic] at Kansas City.

He was baptized upon the confession of his faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior on July 23, 1905, and united with the Hoffnungsau Mennonite church. When he moved to western Kansas he united with the Ebenflur Mennonite church near Syracuse, and in 1920 when the Buhler Mennonite church was organized, he became a charter member there and remained a member until his departure.

On December 14, 1907, he was married to his now sorrowing wife, Anna Schmidt. In this union they lived together for almost 40 years. Three children were born, Selma, Elma and Rosella. Rosella preceded him in death in infancy. Afted [sic] their marriage they made their home on a farm in Hamilton county, Kansas, until 1912, when they moved to McPherson. In 1915 they moved to Buhler, where they had made their home ever since.

He was engaged in the furniture and undertaking business from 1915 to 1943, when he retired on account of failing health. For the last five years he was sickly. On Monday morning, August 4, he was taken to the Grace hospital at Hutchinson for treatment. He seemed to get relief and we had hoped he would soon be home again, when on Wednesday, August 6, 1947, while taking his noon meal he died suddenly of heart failure.

Before going to the hospital he committed himself and his loved ones in prayer to his Lord and we know he is at home now with his Saviour in whom he put his faith and trust. We mourn, but tend him his rest after a long illness. His faith, hope, trust and love towards us will live even though he has departed from us. We say not "good-by" but merely "till we meet again." He reached the age of 61 years, 120 months and six days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Anna of Buhler; Selma, Mrs. Eugene Row, her husband and two children, and Elma, all of Larned; two brothers, John of Inman, and Jacob of St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Janzen, Custer City, Oklahoma, Martha of Buhler, and Mrs. Marie Rupp of Liberal, and many other relatives and friends. — The Family.
