MRS. AGNES V. FLAMING

"I, Aganetha V. Wiebe Flaming, was born August 22, 1884, in the South Springfield District, Marion County, Kansas. I was the youngest daughter of Peter A. and Sara Wiebe, and under their tender care my childhood days were happy.

"Since my father frequently went on trips there existed an intimate relationship between my mother and myself, and I could be of a good deal of assistance to her. Often we prayed together, especially when she felt that father might be in danger. I had the privilege to attend school and diligently tried to obtain a good education.

"When I was 15 years old, I became very ill with typhus fever and was near death, but the Lord helped. At that time I promised the Lord that if he would make me well I would dedicate myself to him. The following summer there was a great revival and I too was in the group. That was indeed a happy time. I found peace on a Sunday morning in the song, 'It is well, It is well with my soul.' I sang this song heartily all day and found joy and comfort in Isaiah 53, verses 4 and 5, "Surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows." Now I was happy to be a child of God. In June 1899, with 32 others I was baptized by Uncle Jacob A. Wiebe. It was a great joy and now I was a member of the Springfield church. For many years I served as Sunday school teacher for children's classes and also was active in the Young People's Christian Endeavor.

On June 21, 1907, I was united in marriage with Henry D. Flaming. Elder Heinrich Wiebe officiated. With joy and courage and many good resolutions, we went into life, but hard times also came which often led me into earnest prayer. Sometimes I though 'What would I have without Christ as me leader.' There were good and evil days.

"I have gone through a good deal of sickness but the Lord was always present with His helping hand. Especially during the last 10 years have I gone through much illness and I had to surrender one thing after another. It took much prayer to adjust myself to not going out to church services and other places but I also had sweet fellowship with the Lord alone at home. When my walking became more and more difficult and it seemed that I would be laid up completely, I called on the Lord for help and he reached out His hand and sustained me. Again and again I could 'lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help.' I deeply appreciate the help Dr. Eitzen has given me. He has had much patience with me but it was wonderful how I could recover again. Bro. Dietrich too has done much for me. May the Lord reward them for it."

Thus far the life story of our dear mother in her own words. As a family we also wish to thank Dr. A. C. Eitzen and Dr. P. D. Ens and the hospital nurses for the kind help and care they gave her in her sickness. We feel deeply thankful for the seven months of care which she received at the Mission Home under the direction of Miss Frances Schmidt and other helpers. May the Lord bless them all for it.

We will miss her as mother in the home a great deal. especially at family gatherings, Christmas and other holidays Above all we will miss her prayers and her influence to direct her to the Lord but we look forward to a happy reunion with her and the Lord. She went to her reward Nov. 22, 1955, at 9:00 o'clock in the evening, reaching the age of 71 years and three months. Her death ended a marriage relationship which lasted for 48 years, four months and 15 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband and 12 children: Sarah and Carl Foster, San Fernando, Calif.; Elizabeth and Henry Janzen, Reedley, Calif.; Erna and Albert Schmidt, Medford, Okla.; Wilma and Abe Wohlgemuth, Whitewater, Kan.; Elfrieda nad Alvin Warkentin, Newton, Kan.; Waldo and Hilda Flaming, Reedley, Calif.; Eleanor and Marvin Wenger, Chico, Calif.; Francis [sic Frances] and Victor Hein, Newton, Kan.; Petrus and Lorrain [sic Lorrayne] Flaming, , Phoenix, Arix.; Adina and Kenny Stansbury, Rodonda [sic Redondo] Beach, Calif.; Jaob and Vera Flaming, Slymor [sic Slymar], Calif.; Anna and Alvin Mack, McKinnly [sic McKinney], Texas.
