Well Known Amish Writer, Traveler Died

SERVICES HELD AT BAREVILLE, PENNA. FOR JONATHAN B. FISHER

Akron, Penna. — Jonathan B. Fisher, well-known writer and traveler of the Amish community near Bareville, Pa., died at his home Feb. 20 at the age of 74. Death came after a long period of ill health.

Funeral services were held Feb. 22 at the Leroy Ebersole home in Bareville community.

Bro. Fisher, one of the most widely-traveled members of the Amish church, took a leisurely trip around the world in the 1930’s. Later he published a booklet on his world trip.

He also toured Mexico and Canada, among other places. Last year he again traveled to Europe, where he made a number of contacts in the interest of the “Heifers For Relief" program and also revisited Mennonite and Amish communities in Germany and Alsace Loraine. He always carried religious pamphlets for distribution along the way.

Bro. Fisher did considerable writing for weekly papers, and his Lancaster County Notes were widely read.

Born in Leacock township, a son of the late Christian and Leah Beiler Fisher, he was a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Farmwald Fisher, three daughters and a foster son.
