Richard K. Fast, oldest son of Anton and Elizabeth (Kliewer) Fast, was born August 10, 1938, at Fredonia, Kansas.

He received his public school training at Fredonia and Burns, Kans. Later he moved with his parents to the Greenfield School District at Goessel, Kans. where he continued his schooling. He completed his elementary school training in the Gordon school near Goessel. He also finished two years of high school at the Goessel Rural high school.

He was baptized upon confession of faith in his Redeemer Jesus Christ on May 24, 1953, by Rev. Orlin Frey and joined the Goessel Mennonite church, whose faithful member he remained until his death.

Richard was a faithful and obedient child who helped his parents in their farm work as much as strength and health permitted. He loved to attend the services of his church and was a regular attendant in all its activities. He lived a true Christian life before others, especially the young people in his church.

A little over two years ago the disease known as leukemia attacked his body. Every possible medical aid was given him and various physicians were consulted, all of whom tried their best to help him. He again became seriously ill about two weeks ago and above all the doctors could do for him, he passed away to his heavenly home on June 17, 1954, at 4:30 at the Bethesda hospital. He reached the age of 15 years, 10 months and eight days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his deeply sorrowing parents, of Goessel; two sisters Winifred May and Arlene Lavonne, and one brother Clayton K., all of the home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter B. Fast of Goessel and Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Kliewer of Reedley, Calif., and many other relatives and friends.

Isaiah. 43:1, "For I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name: thou art mine.”

Funeral services were conducted at the Bergen funeral home by Rev. Ed Stucky and at the Goessel Mennonite church by Rev. P. P. Buller and Rev. P. A. Wedel. Interment was made in the Goessel Church cemetery.
