— Mrs. John J. Fast, 90-year-old resident of the Eventide Home at Mountain Lake, Minn., died at the home on Jan. 17. She leaves a family of ten children. Funeral services were held at the Gospel Mennonite Church.

MRS. JOHN FAST, SR.

The Lord has seen fit to remove from our midst our aged mother, Mrs. John J. Fast. Daughter of the late John and Marie Boschman, she was born on March 15, 1868, in South Russia. She departed from this life on Jan. 17, 1959, reaching the age of 90 years, 10 months and two days.

During the early migration of Mennonites from Russia to America she came as a child with her parents to America, first settling north of Butterfield, Minn., later moving to the Henderson, Neb. community. Here she received her early training and spent her early years.

On Dec. 2, 1886, she was married to John J. Fast. This union was blessed with 11 children, five sons and six daughters. This union was severed when her husband died Nov. 26, 1947. They shared this marriage estate for nearly 61 years.

In 1896 our parents moved from Nebraska to a farm north of Butterfield, where they lived until 1923. Then the moved to the village of Mt. Lake, where they spent the remainder of their days. In the last years of her life mother made her home in Eventide Home.

In her youth she was baptized upon her confession of faith and be came a member of the Mennonite Church of Henderson, Neb. In 1928 she became a member of the Bergfelder Mennonite Church of Mt. Lake, now known as Gospel Mennonite church of which she remained a member until her death.

Her life's pathway was strewn with the share of hardship and toil. But now the frailties and feebleness of old age with its struggles are over. She is at rest.

She leaves to mourn her departure ten children: John, Peter, George, Cornelius and Abe of Butterfield, (Helena) Mrs. P. Heppner, (Elizabeth) Mrs. C. Heppner, (Marie) Mrs. John Falk of Butterfield, (Agnes) Mrs. Abe Toews of Dallas, Oregon, and (Annie) Mrs. Dave Buhr of Mt. Lake; 38 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren; plus other relatives and friends.

One infant daughter, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 1:30 p. m. at the Johnson Chapel and 2:00 p. m. at the Gospel Mennonite Church, Rev. A. H. Schultz officiating.
