JOHN FAST JR.
John Fast Jr., son of John and Helena Fast, was born on Sept 12, 1890 at Henderson, Neb. He received his education at Darfur, Minn. and District 53.
On May 27, 1912 he was baptized and received into the First Mennonite Church at Mt. Lake, Minn. He became a member at the Gospel Mennonite Church of Mt. Lake in November 1930 by a letter of transfer.
He homesteaded at Enverness, Mont. but sold his property and moved to Butterfield, Minn. where he had lived ever since. He was married to Marie Falk on Sept 10, 1918. Two children were born to this union. In June of 1929 his wife Marie passed away as a result at being severely burned. He married Helen Vogt on Nov. 25, 1930, and to this union a son, Edward, was born.
John passed away at his home on Jan. 23, 1973 from a heart condition. He attained the age of 82.
He is survived by his wife of Butterfield; two sons, John of Petaluma, Calif., and Edward of Butterfield; six grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Helen Heppner of St. James, Mrs. Elizabeth Heppner of Butterfield, Mrs. Mary Falk of Butterfield, and Mrs. Anna Buhr of Mt. Lake; four brothers, Pete of Youngstown, Ariz., George and Cornelius of Butterfield, and Abraham of Darfur.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, a daughter, Evelyn and two sisters.
John was a hard worker and a good provider and read his Bible daily.
Funeral services were held the morning of Jan. 25 at the Gospel Mennonite Church, with Rev. Arnold Epp and Rev. Harold D. Thieszen officiating.
