JACOB FAST

Jacob Fast of Bingham Lake, Minn. passed away shortly before midnight Tuesday, Feb. 28. He had reached the age of 67 years, 10 months, and 24 days.

Jacob was the son of John J. and Margaret (Enns) Fast. He was born in Carson township. When he was only three years of age his mother died. His father died in 1920, and this left the responsibilities for the family to be taken over by Jacob.

Jacob attended the elementary school in Carson township and also the Bible school in Mt. Lake. While still a boy he went with his parents to Sunday school and church in Delft. Jacob's father married again, the second time to Agnes Vogt.

On June 11, 1915, Jacob was baptized upon his confession of faith by Rev. H. H. Regier, and received into the membership of the Bethel Mennonite Church. Here he was a faithful member the remainder of his life. He served on various committees and boards.

On Sept. 3, 1925, he was married to Anna Wieler. To this union three sons were born: twins, Harry and Harold, and Alvin. On Sept. 3, 1950, it was the privilege of the parents to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. In all, it was their privilege to enjoy the joys and sorrows of life together for over 35 years.

Jacob loved farming. He was a lover of nature and took a deep interest in the work in the field. To the very end of his days he took care of the farm work.

On Sunday morning, Feb. 26, during the church service he suffered a stroke. This proved to be so severe a stroke that he never recovered from it. Less than 60 hours afterwards death overtook him.

He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, Anna; three sons, Harry and wife Alice and six children; Harold and wife Elfrieda and five children; and Alvin and wife Velma and their son, all of Bingham Lake.

Also he leaves his brother John and wife of Mt. Lake and a sister Mary, Mrs. John Wall, and husband of Bingham Lake. From his father's marriage to his second wife there are the following sisters and brothers: Anna of Windom; Agnes, Mrs. D. J. Goertzen and husband, Windom; Helen, Mrs. George Wieler and husband, Windom; Henry and wife of Windom; Peter and wife of Bingham Lake; and one brother-in-law, Ernest Hiebert. There is also his aged mother-in-law, Grandmother Susie Wieler of the Eventide home, and a number of nieces and nephews. From the side of his wife there are a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were a sister Sara, Mrs. Ernest Hiebert, who died in 1937, and two brothers who died in infancy. — The Family.
